![]() Please refer to Spider Solitaire 1 Suit for more basic strategy and to Spider Solitaire 4 suits for more advanced strategy and tips. One color for cards that can be moved over a card from the same suit (these are the preferred moves), and another for cards that can only be moved over a card from different suits.ĭepending on your settings - clicking a card may not move it over another non-same suit card, you may need to drag it (this behavior can be changed from the options menu) When clicking on "Hint", moveable cards are marked with two different colors. At this point, if the player can move cards around and remove all cards from the Tableau, the game is won. This process of moving suited runs and initiating the next deal continues until there are no more piles left in the Stock. When all cards have been moved to the player's liking within the Tableau, they must click on the rightmost pile in the Stock to initiate the next deal. If onto another pile, the target card must be next in rank to the highest ranking card being moved however, it does not necessarily need to be the same suit. The rules of the game allow any suited run to be placed into an empty column.Ī suited run in the Tableau may be moved from the bottom of one pile and either into a vacant column or onto the bottom-most card in another pile. When the player manages to arrange a complete suited run from the King down to the Ace, it is automatically placed into a foundation location for storage.Ī column that contains no cards is said to be empty or vacant. All the cards being moved must be the same suit and, from up to down on the screen, must be descending in rank. In Spider Solitaire, groups of one or more consecutive cards are moved at a time within the Tableau. This brings the card into play and can then be moved when appropriate. A card is turned (or flipped) automatically when all cards atop of it are removed. Part of what has to be done to win a game is for the player to turn (cause to become visible) all 44 hidden cards in the Tableau. The remaining 50 cards are sent to the Stock. Only the top (bottom-most on-screen) card in each pile is face-up (visible) while all the rest are face-down (hidden or invisible). ![]() When the game starts, a pile of 54 cards is dealt into each Tableau column, 6 into the leftmost 4 columns, and 5 into the remaining 6 columns. Spider Solitaire is played with two decks of standard playing cards, for a total of 104 cards. In effect, the goal is to empty the Tableau of all cards. The goal of Spider Solitaire is to build all 8 ordered suits from King down to Ace in the Tableau, each ordered suit is automatically sent to a foundation as it's completed. It's still one of the most played solitaire games today. The computerized version became very popular following its inclusion into Microsoft's Windows 98 Plus. Spider Solitaire is said to have gotten its name from the fact that spiders have 8 legs and the game has 8 foundations. It's played with 52 Hearts and 52 Spades. This version is meant for the intermediate player. ![]() Most prefer the Intermediate level, which is played with 2 suits. The Advanced level is played with all 4 suits and is rather difficult to beat. The Beginner level is played with only 1 suit and is relatively easy to beat. There are three different levels of difficulty. The game is played with two 52-card decks of standard playing cards. However, if one is not into hard thinking and just wants to relax and be entertained, the game can be played at an easy level. It's a complex game that requires problem-solving skills to master. If you are not satisfied with the progress, you may click the Give Up button at the bottom left corner of the screen to quit the current game.Spider Solitaire is a popular card game played around the world. If no more moves can be made, you can click a stock pile to deal new cards, but note that this can only be done when all tableau piles are occupied by cards. An empty tableau pile can be occupied by any card. ![]() The downturned cards on the tableau piles will reveal when the upturned cards are removed. You can move a group of cards built down by suit or a single card to another tableau pile if the move itself is in sequence, for example, a 3 of spades and a 2 of spades can be moved to a 4 of hearts. The remaining cards are downturned and divided into 6 stock piles at the bottom right corner of the screen. Each of the tableau piles will then be dealt 1 upturned card. The game starts with 10 tableau piles, with each of the four piles on the left contains 4 downturned cards and each of the remaining piles contains 3 downturned cards. Mind your steps and plan your moves carefully in the two-suit Spider Solitaire! Your goal in this game is to arrange the cards by suit from K to A so that they can be removed. ![]() To that end, what I will be discussing today is the brainchild of Ryan Thomason, one of the employees in our firm. That sounds serious, doesn’t it? I won’t go so far as to completely eliminate my ego as a contributor to my line of thinking, but since I haven’t actually drawn any of these drawings, I’m going to add, that how we draw helps build the sort of design culture I am looking to establish in our office. I also believe that they serve the additional purpose of letting everyone know that I take my drawings seriously and they had better take them seriously as well. In a few minutes I can model a portion of the ceiling in SketchUp and send a screenshot to the contractor in the field so they can visualize what kind of change we're thinking.Architectural drawings serve the obvious purpose of conveying specific information in a linear and direct manner. For example, a contractor calls me and says there's a conflict in the ceiling cavity, so we have to make an adjustment to the ceiling design. The first thing I'm interested in is just a new tool for quick sketches. In other words, I hate the typical Revit workflow in our office.Īll of this rant is mostly a discussion for the future perhaps, but at this point I'm looking to integrate new tools into my workflow. When the client asks me to quick make a revision to the schematic plan, which happens frequently, I have to wrestle with a million model elements just to make a minor "schematic" adjustment. Each group has all the elements needed for the final CDs (walls, equipment/plumbing fixtures, even separate wall finishes). Understood that the parametric workflow of FreeCAD may slow my process a bit to the point that it won't work for quick sketchy ideas, but I think it's worth a shot.Ī big part of my frustration with the typical Revit workflow I deal with is just how clunky it is try out different ideas, while keeping a streamlined process though to a more finalized Revit model for construction documents.Ĭase in point: I have a large national client in which we prepare schematic floor plans using the client's prototypical model groups (kitchen, accounting office, breakroom, server room, etc). And I imaging the Part Design and Sketch workbenches may be of interest for me as well. I'll definitely dig into the Arch workbench. Have you tried dynamic data instead or in addition to spreadsheets? Just curious. After 18 months of using FreeCAD, I still can't do it fully for some of my designs but it's worlds better than not having that capability. On the other hand, my metal working machines are all manual so I wouldn't have had to bother changing SketchUp either but this way I can easily send the files to a CNC job shop if I want a small run of them.Ī quick note about the parameterization I just bragged about: It takes a bit of experience to design something with even moderate complexity that won't brake when a parameter is changed. When I migrate the part to aluminum, I will just need to change the thread and pin clearances. In FreeCAD, I have it all parameterized, right down to clearances. I could have designed these things in SketchUp in about an hour. The first thought was to use all-thread and heims but there are reasons I decided to design my own control rods at this rather large scale. I have about 2 hours into these two pieces and another part these connect to. It will be prototyped in 3d printed plastic and final parts machined from aluminum. Here is a design I'm working on for a heavy duty control rod for an active project. I've never seen another approach but FreeCAD is a multi-headed monster so I'm sure there are many ways to skin the cat. The tutorials I followed all used the Part Design workbench as a conduit to the Sketch workbench and the very occasional dip into the Part Workbench. If you want a more technical design approach, FreeCAD will be a revelation and your designs will thank you for it. That could be my own bias, now that I'm used to FreeCAD and have been using it about 18 months.Īt this point, I wouldn't go back to SketchUp but I also wouldn't encourage someone to switch SketchUp to FreeCAD. Oddly, there are some basic things I find quicker and easier in FreeCAD than SketchUp. For my most complex designs, I had to abandon Spreadsheet parameterization and directly constrain everything. On the other hand, FreeCAD spreadsheets are amazing and bring worlds of power to design. Particularly FreeCAD spreadsheets bring a lot of overhead. The biggest problem with FreeCAD, for me, is how much it slows down with complexity. I used both this site and YouTube tutorials to learn FreeCAD both are amazing resources. It was a bit more of a struggle to learn FreeCAD than SketchUp. FreeCAD can replace SketchUp for nearly everything I do but I wouldn't assume it can be a direct replacement for your purposes. FreeCAD and SketchUp do mostly the same thing and yet they are so different. ![]() To determine if an ellipse's radii are large enough to require expanding, a system of equations would need to be solved, such as this on wolfram alpha. The interactive codepen at the bottom of this page demonstrates this well. If the start→end points are farther than the ellipse's x and y radius can reach, the ellipse's radii will be minimally expanded so it could reach the start→end points. They are flipped along the line formed from the start→end points. The two ellipses are just mirror images of each other. Each ellipse has one short arc and one long arc. Notice that each of the blue ellipses are formed by two arcs, depending on traveling clockwise or counter-clockwise. In a slightly modified example the two ellipses that form the four different arcs can be seen: This rotates the ellipse so that it is aligned with its minor axis along the path direction, as shown by the second ellipse in the example image.įor the unrotated ellipse in the image above, there are only two different arcs and not four to choose from because the line drawn from the start and end of the arc goes through the center of the ellipse. ![]() For the second arc, though, the x-axis-rotation is set to -45 degrees. In the first one, the x-axis-rotation has been left at 0, so the ellipse that the arc travels around (shown in gray) is oriented straight up and down. At its center, two elliptical arcs have been cut out (x radius = 30, y radius = 50). The example shows a element that goes diagonally across the page. The result is not the same as what the Q command would have produced with the same parameters, but is similar.Īn example of this syntax is shown below, and in the figure to the left the specified control points are shown in red, and the inferred control point in blue. If the S command doesn't follow another S or C command, then the current position of the cursor is used as the first control point. S produces the same type of curve as earlier-but if it follows another S command or a C command, the first control point is assumed to be a reflection of the one used previously. In this case, a shortcut version of the cubic Bézier can be used, designated by the command S (or s). Often, the control point on one side of a point will be a reflection of the control point used on the other side to keep the slope constant. Several Bézier curves can be strung together to create extended, smooth shapes. The thing to note here is that the curve starts in the direction of the first control point, and then bends so that it arrives along the direction of the second control point. As the curves move downward, they become further separated from the end points. As the curves move toward the right, the control points become spread out horizontally. The example above creates nine cubic Bézier curves. Later, we will learn how paths can be transformed to suit other needs. An uppercase letter specifies absolute coordinates on the page, and a lowercase letter specifies relative coordinates (e.g., move 10px up and 7px to the left from the last point).Ĭoordinates in the d parameter are always unitless and hence in the user coordinate system. After that, the parser begins reading for the next command.Īll of the commands also come in two variants. ![]() So, to move to ( 10, 10) the command to use would be M 10 10. When the parser runs into this letter, it knows it needs to move to a point. The "Move to" command is called with the letter M. For instance, let's move to the x and y coordinates ( 10, 10). (See more in basic shapes.) The d attribute contains a series of commands and parameters used by those commands.Įach of the commands is instantiated (for example, creating a class, naming and locating it) by a specific letter. The shape of a element is defined by one parameter: d. While creating complex paths using an XML editor or text editor is not recommended, understanding how they work will allow to identify and repair display issues in SVGs. While and elements can create similar-looking shapes, elements require a lot of small straight lines to simulate curves and don't scale well to larger sizes.Ī good understanding of paths is important when drawing SVGs. Complex shapes composed only of straight lines can be created as elements. Paths create complex shapes by combining multiple straight lines or curved lines. It can be used to create lines, curves, arcs, and more. ![]() The element is the most powerful element in the SVG library of basic shapes.

If you need to make a price adjustment, you can do so as long as the new price falls within the WTP range. You might think of it as the "default" pricing method since it consists of finding what the customer is willing to pay (the WTP price), making sure it's higher than the cost of production, and setting your price somewhere in between. ![]() The first pricing method is probably the one you're most familiar with: value-based pricing. Here, we'll look at 15 of the most common pricing methods, plus how and when to use them. Your product probably isn't going to switch from being a luxury to a bargain and back again, but you can (and, in some cases, should) switch up the pricing method you're using to better meet your market demands. Pricing methods are sort of like plays in a playbook. Once you have that figured out, you'll move on to choosing a pricing method, which is the how of your pricing strategy. Your core pricing strategy has to do with what you're selling: a luxury, a bargain, or just a good product for a good price. But you'll spend a lot less time and money starting with a pricing analysis than you will taking a complete shot in the dark. Sure, you could just trial-and-error a bunch of prices until you find the price that maximizes profit without deterring potential customers-and there will probably still be some of that even after you choose a pricing strategy for your business. The goal is to set a price that will entice customers to buy, but that isn't so low that you're not making a profit. What is a pricing strategy?Ī pricing strategy is a plan for setting the best price for your products or services. ![]() Here's a guide to creating a pricing strategy that will keep your profits moving up and to the right. The trick for wobbly lines is to use your wrist to exit up and over. In this case, increase StreamLine to 60 %. It’s like a magnet but you must not increase StreamLine to 100 %. The advantage of StreamLine is that it takes away the waviness. In this tutorial, StreamLine is set at 31% according to Peggy's speed but you can adjust the StreamLine according to your speed of creating letters. If you click on the brush, you're going to see something called StreamLine under the Stroke Path. For this, the trick is to change the percentage of StreamLine. The slower you draw, the more you can see how this shakes. To create a “u”, you first need to do a downstroke and then an upstroke and then a downstroke and upstroke. But where you want your pressure or weight lines to go, just think about where the downstroke is because it will give a really nice hairline stroke. If you aren't familiar with the pressure, this is just something that's going to take some time getting used to. It's because you can do it in any way you like, as long as it's cohesive. In the practice guide that comes with the pack, you're going to see two different versions of letters. There is no one single style of drawing an alphabet.
